Smoky's
Martini Club is set to have its first anniversary
party in May, and with 718 members and a menu
of 125 martinis, it promises to be a lively night.
The club ws started by "Martini Bob"
Perry, who has worked at Smoky's restaurant for
23 years and now manages its bar. It began simply
with "buy eight martinis (ideally, over many
visits) and get a ninth free." (Smoky's offers
free cab rides home on Thursday, Friday and Saturday
nights.)
But Perry then began collecting recipes, expanding
the menu, including some from the members, for
whom they are named, selling T-shirst and polo
shirts and sponsoring a coed volleyball team.
He is now planning a series of tastings of both
martinis and wine in upcoming months. "There's
a lot of younger people in the club, and they're
having a lot of fun with it," Perry said. |
